- Desiccant dehumidifiers use an absorbent rotor (silica gel) that captures moisture, then continuously regenerates with hot air. This technology works effectively at low temperatures (down to -10°C) and low humidity (<40%), conditions where condensation becomes ineffective. Capacity ranges from 30 to 400 liters per day, with power consumption from 600 to 3,000 watts. Essential for winter construction sites, cold rooms, and unheated areas.
The choice between the two technologies strictly depends on operating conditions: ambient temperature, initial humidity level, and desired performance. A condensation dehumidifier is ample for 80% of temperate professional applications. Desiccation is only necessary for extreme conditions (cold, very low target humidity).
Industrial vs. domestic dehumidifiers
Industrial dehumidifiers are distinguished by their robustness, high extraction capacity, and continuous operation 24/7 for several weeks or months. They feature reinforced metal construction, professional rotary compressors, high-pressure centrifugal fans, and adjustable air ducts. Capacity ranges from 30 to 400 L/day for volumes from 100 to 2,000 m³.
Domestic models extract 10 to 25 L/day maximum, have plastic construction, and operate 8 to 12 hours daily. They are unsuitable for construction sites and professional environments: rapid overheating in continuous use, insufficient capacity for large volumes, and no ducts for targeted extraction.
Industrial dehumidifiers also integrate professional functionalities: precise digital humidistats (±2%), hourly programming, automatic full tank shut-off, integrated lift pump for automatic drainage, robust wheeled chassis, and ergonomic handles. Some models offer Ø100-200 mm duct connections for targeted extraction or insufflation into adjacent rooms.

Sizing and selection
Sizing an industrial dehumidifier requires calculating the volume to be treated and assessing the initial humidity level. The approximate rule: for a room of 200 m² × 3 m high = 600 m³, with moderate humidity (70-80%), a dehumidifier of 50 to 80 liters per day is sufficient. For very high humidity (>80%) or rapid drying after a disaster, double the capacity: 100 to 150 L/day.
Aggravating factors require an increase: significant air renewal (frequently open doors), continuous humidity input (industrial processes, washing), low temperature (<15°C), presence of porous materials saturated with water (plaster, wood). In these conditions, prefer an oversized model by 30-50% to ensure efficiency.
For temporary installations (construction site, disaster), choose mobile models on wheels with an integrated tank. For permanent installations (warehouse, workshop), select models with continuous drainage via a hose and automated operation via a humidistat.
